AL Tawba Mosque or Al Nasiri Mosque
Description
This Mosque is close to the riverside, near the bridge of the butchers and the Soldiers Khan. Built under the patronage of Sultan Nasser (Al Nasiri), in the late 14th C, it presents many similarities within Al Mansouri, what led us to think that the architect is the same. According to the oral tradition, it has been said that the commissioner has stolen the money, that is why it lacks ornamentation. But he has been caught and repentant, he promised to build it again. This mosque has a typical Mamluk ribbed dome, and a plaque providing all information on the construction. The decision makers planned to demolish this mosque after the flood, but the Mefti of Tripoli confronted this decision. Another Bronze plaque, dated from the Ottoman period, informs the visitors on the flood of the 16th Century.
Al Tawba Fountain and Minaret. The dome is mamluk in shape and measures.
