Al Mawlawiya

It is a complete school for the Sufis Dervishes  Mawlawi affiliated to Sidi Jalal el Din al Rumi order. It has been built under the Ottoman period. Lately it has been renovated by the Turkish side. The mawlawiyah served as a major tradition in Tripoli City with its annual reception gathering notability from all over Lebanon, Palestine , Aleppo, Syria and Konya. They used to show up every year and to dance till they fall down inert. In the last celebration (Sixties), they used for the first time the piano, that is supposed to be forbidden in Islam, being a string instrument. But it was a big success. After that date, Lebanon knew some  turbulence, and the building which is close to the river was partly damaged. The mawlawiya was closed for the safety of the dervishes, and it lasted close till lately when the renovation ended.
