Description

Built on 1307, during the reign of Sultan Al Nasser. Close to the Souk of the Goldsmiths and to the Al Dabha School, the mosque was built on an old khan owned by a Christian citizen of Tripoli who refused to welcome Sidi Abdel Wahed when he stepped down to Tripoli coming from Morocco. This merchant paid a large amount to buy the khan and to transform it to a mosque. The plan looks like a khan plan, rooms and arched corridors open on a courtyard, it recalls the Moroccan style. A shrine for a Moroccan personality lies close to this mosque, it has a ribbed dome resting on two floors structures. The minaret is smaller and lower than usual, on the top a small dome, is a unique model found in Tripoli design, usually of conic form.
